Blumenauer on Charity

“Well I’ve gone a great deal of work with non-governmental organizations in Oregon and around the country dealing with fragile ecosystems and people who are at risk. One of my highest priorities has been to help poor people internationally with water and sanitation. I have sponsored major legislation that we’ve enacted to change the United States’ foreign policy. That’s one of the areas that is the most important to focus on. Half the people who are sick at any given time around the world are sick needlessly from water-born disease. This is a tremendous opportunity for the United States to help people, to make friends, to protect the environment, and serve humanity. And I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to continue to do more in that area.”
