Representative Ciro Rodriguez (D-TX)
He started his career in public service as a School District board member while working as a social worker. In 1987, he was elected to the Texas State Legislature, where he helped push through a law that guarenteed the top 10 percent of Texas high school graduates admission into any public four-year university in Texas. Also at the time he taught at his alma mater, Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1997, and soon became the Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

    “Of course it is. And we all know that and we have always . . . So if you have good reason that shouldn’t be any problem. And the courts are ready to move as quickly as possible, and we even allow them, in cases of emergencies, for them to go ahead and do it and come to the courts later, but they still have to come to the courts. The way we have been operating hasn’t been a rule of law, and the administration wants to continue to do that and that’s not what America is all about.”
